during COVID19

This list started on the 1st day of school closures across Canada due to COVID19.

We will continue to add to this list every day until schools are officially back in session, however long that takes.

Assign your kids and students any or all activities – whenever and wherever!

Let them have FUN, and they’ll be learning without even knowing it. (-:

  • 1. March 14 – Crush It! on National Potato Chip Day!
  • 2. Build an alien creature out of natural (outdoor) materials.
  • 3. Celebrate March 15thAct dumbstruck on World Dumbstruck Day
  • 4. Invent a secret code and send a message to a friend.
  • 5. March 16thDraw a Panda on National Panda Day!
  • 6. Feed the birds (they’re hungry in late winter!)
  • 7. March 17thwatch the Irish Rovers sing The Unicorn song for St. Patricks Day!
  • 8. Create a musical instrument that from recycled materials
  • 9. March 18th – Bake cookies on Lacy Oatmeal Cookie Day!
  • 10. Take a photograph of your favourite outdoor place and share it online.
  • 11. March 19thPaint a picture on the First Day Of Spring!
  • 12. Write a card to people in a local seniors’ residence, and have someone drop it off or send it through the mail.
  • 13. March 20th – Do something to make someone happy on the International Day Of Happiness!
  • 14. Start a record of every different wild animal you see. If you can’t identify it, draw or describe it!
  • 15. March 21stMake a model or draw a picture of your favourite forest on the International Day Of Forests!
  • 16. Do an outdoor physical activity for an hour. Get your body moving!
  • 17. March 22ndTake the day off! It’s International Goof Off Day
  • 18. Whistle or hum your favourite tune in a foreign language.
  • 19. March 23rd – Learn how to make a chip dip on National Chip And Dip Day.
  • 20. Dance inside to your favourite music. Get your body moving!

  • 29. March 28th – List all the things you can think of that people could eat for Something On A Stick Day
  • 30. Go for a walk outdoors, and identify 10 different natural sounds. Record them if you can!

  • 32. Start reading a brand new-to-you book, any genre.
  • 33. March 30thCreate a Thank You card and send it to your doctor or to your local hospital on National Doctors Day
  • 34. March 31st Take a walk in a local park to honour Take A Walk In The Park Day (but stay safe and DON’T play on the play equipment which could spread covid19 germs)
  • 35. Use crayons to create an original piece of art on National Crayon Day
  • 36. April 1st – Watch 10 Practical Jokes for Sibling Prank Wars and learn one for NEXT year! Great Science Experiments!
  • 37. Find 5 signs of spring that you HAVEN’T noticed in the last few weeks
  • 38. April 2ndCreate a new variety of “PB+J” and share a picture on National Peanut Butter And Jelly Day!
  • 39. Take a walk no farther than 10 minutes from your house and find 7 SIGNS of wild animals living there. Stay away from Polar Bears!
  • 40. April 3rdCount the # of rainbows you can find or create on Find a Rainbow Day (Bubbles? Objects in “ROYGBIV” order?)
  • 41. Make and decorate a mud pie cake to celebrate Spring!
  • 45. April 5th – Use a road map of Canada to plan a fantasy road trip to all kinds of cool places on Read A Road Map Day
  • 46. Use crayons and paper to create bark rubbings of 5 different trees near your home.
  • 47. April 6th – Learn to make Caramel Popcorn for National Caramel Popcorn Day!
  • 48. Create an obstacle course in your backyard!
  • 49. April 7th – Learn how to make Coffee Cake on National Coffee Cake Day!  
  • 50. Find some small stones and make a cool design in the style of the artist Andy Goldsworthy!
  • 51. April 8th – What is your favourite Bird? Learn to draw a picture of it on Draw A Picture of a Bird Day
  • 51. Watch a famous athlete in action and learn something from watching them.
  • 53. April 9thCreate a cool new name for yourself on Name Yourself Day – but only for today!
  • 54. Instead of decorating Easter eggs this year (they might be in short supply) bake Easter Egg Cookies!
  • 55. April 10th – We can’t visit a farm, so list as many different things we get from farm animals on National Farm Animal Day
  • 56. Draw or build a model or use Minecraft to create what a farm might look like in the future!
  • 57. April 11th –  It’s National Submarine Day! Build and decorate your own “sub” out of cardboard – or out of a long bun + your favourite fillings!
  • 58. Ask a parent that OTHER magic phrase: “Is there anything I can do?” (and then do it!)
  • 59. April 12th  – Learn how to make your own Grilled Cheese Sandwiches – it’s National Grilled Cheese Day!
  • 60. Watch your favourite movie and see how many things you can find that you’ve NEVER noticed before!
  • 61. April 13th – What else on National Scrabble Day? Play a game of Scrabble with someone in your home! Want to make your own?
  • 62. No Scrabble Game? Get some stiff board, some markers, and design your own board game!
  • 63. April 14thCreate a cool story about a lonely dolphin on National Dolphin Day Use any medium you want!
  • 64. Nothing else to do on Look Up At The Sky Day but spend a good long time just relaxing and looking at the sky! (-:
  • 65. April 15th – It’s World Art Day: definitely time to break out your favourite tools and create a work of art!
  • 66. Use sidewalk chalk to create a game on a VERY SAFE piece of pavement.
  • 67. April 16th – Do ONE thing to help save elephants on International Save The Elephant Day: learn about the dangers, tell other people, donate money, anything!
  • 68. It’s so important these days: do THREE different things to relax on National Stress Awareness Day!
  • 69. April 17thWrite a cool Haiku poem about living through #covid19 on International Haiku Poetry Day!
  • 70. Go outside and set a personal best in something you like to do. How many times can you… ?
  • 71. April 18th – Cool! It’s International Juggler’s Day! How many items can you juggle and keep in the air at once?
  • 72. Collect some twigs from the ground, and try to create a birds nest. How do birds hold those twigs together? You can use glue!
  • 73. April 19th – Today’s a great day to celebrate your PETS! How will you do that? If you don’t have a pet, create one and give it a name!
  • 74. Make a musical xylophone made out of glasses and water, and create a beautiful tune!
  • 75. April 20th – It’s National Look Alike Day! Dress and talk like your favourite person & see if people can guess who it is!
  • 76. It’s also a great day to go out (or look out) and make a drawing of what spring looks like in your area!
  • 77. April 21st – It’s National Kindergarten Day! What are your favourite memories from Kindergarten? Write a card to your Kindergarten teacher and tell them. And don’t forget to THANK them for all their tireless work. We LOVE JK-SK teachers!

  • 79. April 23rd – It’s Take A Chance Day! List 3 things you’d really like to learn or do, then take ONE step towards achieving one of them!
  • 80. Go for a walk around your neighbourhood & see if you can locate EVERY letter of the alphabet!
  • 81. April 24th – It’s National Pig-in-a-Blanket Day! Bake your own version with whatever you have on hand: wrap wieners in bread, bacon, pita, or dough, then bake in the oven and enjoy!
  • 82. Build a cool fort out of cardboard – outside if possible!
  • 83. April 25th – Find some photos of penguins and create a penguin family out of modelling clay on World Penguin Day!
  • 84. Use household objects like toys, cans, plastic cups, and boxes to create a backyard mini golf course! Here’s an additional resource
  • 85. April 26th – We already have the M+M characters. Create your own fun PRETZEL characters on World Pretzel Day! Download the blank file!
  • 86. Learn to say 3 phrases in a foreign language!
  • 87. April 27thLearn Morse Code, and send a secret message using dots and dashes to someone on National Morse Code Day!  ••  –  •••       **••*  ••–   –• !  Learn to spell your name in Morse Code!
  • 88. Memorize ALL of the words to your new favourite song!
  • 89. April 28th – On Great Poetry Reading Day! We challenge you to record yourself reading your FAVOURITE POEM out loud. Share it with your teacher + classmates!
  • 90. Go outside and see how high you can build a tower of stones – no glue!
  • 91. April 29th – We couldn’t find a day of interest today, so we declare it Wash Your Bicycle Or Toys Day! Just don’t make a mess if you’re doing it inside!
  • 92. Lose an argument and surprise them by just saying “OK.”
  • 93. Today is National Honesty Day! Play “2 Truths & a Lie” and see if your family or friends can figure out which of your 3 statements is a lie. Make sure you keep a poker face!
  • 94. Find a mirror & some headphones: it’s time to DANCE!
  • 95. May 1st – Today is National Principals Day so send a card or email to your school principal to thank them for all the hard work they’ve been doing during covid19!
  • 96. Go for a walk and capture the smell of #Spring!
  • 97. May 3rd –  National Chocolate Custard Day Learn to make Chocolate Pudding today or just eat some ready-made. And what could taste better than a Spring Dirt Pie with gummy worm “worms?!? Yummmm!
  • 98. May 4th – It’s National Star Wars Day! Dress up as your favourite character, plan a StarWars dinner, and #MayTheForthBeWithYou.
  • 99. Build a model of a robot from recycled materials and items you have around your home. Be creative!
  • 100. May 5th – Today is the National Day for the Awareness for #MMIW and #MMIWG, the missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and their families. Wear red and hang a real red dress, a painting, or a cut-out in your front window to show your understanding and support.
  • 101. May 6thCreate a sign to say Thank you to all the nurses during National Nurses Week! Draw them in hero capes!
  • 102. On a SAFE piece of sidewalk, use coloured chalk to create some lovely Sidewalk Art. Cheer up your neighbourhood!
  • 103. May 7th – Today is National Password Day. Change your password on any site where you login. Keep a record somewhere of your new passwords in a SECRET PLACE!
  • 104. Create a new food that you love, and give it a name. Eat your new invention!
  • 105. May 8th – It’s IRIS DAY! Learn to draw an Iris (perhaps for Mother’s Day?) in 5 easy steps! 
  • 106. It’s still too cold to plant but it’s a great time to plan a summer garden. What would you like to grow this year?

  • 109. May 13th – Celebrate International Hummus Day by discovering more about this humble little pea that makes delicious dishes around the world. Learn how to make your own!
  • 110. Use Google translate to translate a short sentence into 5 different foreign languages.
  • 111. May 16th – It’s officially National Love A Tree Day! Go out and give that tree a great big hug. And then talk to your parents about planting your own tree.
  • 112. Learn to cook something new!
  • 113. May 17th – Celebrate National Pizza Party Day two days late by making or ordering your favourite pizza for dinner today. Do something fun, and make it a Party!!
  • 114. Go for a walk and take pictures of all the cool patterns you see in nature outdoors.
  • 115. May 23rdLearn to make Taffy on National Taffy Day! It’s fun to do the stretching, and you can make them any flavour you like!
  • 116. Plan to make breakfast in bed tomorrow for someone who deserves it – a mom or dad or — ???
  • 117. May 24th AWESOME!!! It’s National Scavenger Hunt Day! Create a scavenger hunt, and have your family look for everything on the list. Who will find the most?
  • 118. Become a Weather Reporter, and make a video of your own Weather Report. Share it with your teacher to show them your cool learning!
  • 119. May 26th One of our favourite days of the year! It’s National Paper Airplane Day! Lots of cool patterns online or make your own! Just create a paper airplane and see how far it will FLYYYyyyYYYyyyyYYYyyyyyyyyyyyy…..
  • 121. May 28th. It’s National Hamburger Day today! Turn on the BBQ, or the stove, and whip up your favourite brand of hamburgers – what are your favourite toppings?

  • 134. June 10th Who knew?!? It’s National Black Cow Day! Celebrate with a Black Cow Ice cream float – ice cream and root bear or any dark soda. Enjoy!

  • 136. June 11th It’s National Making Life Beautiful Day! Do something for those around you to make their lives more beautiful.

  • 150. June 20th Start a new tradition to celebrate the First Day Of Summer! Create a special drink, do a special activity, have FUN!
